From August 14-18, 2023, researchers from the Electron Linear Accelerator Laboratory, Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with researchers from the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), participated in a research project titled "Cold Surface Experiments of Interstellar Complex Molecules" at the Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. This project focused on studying the formation and interactions of hydrocarbon and organic molecules in space.
During this research collaboration, the team exchanged knowledge on low-temperature experiments to simulate interstellar medium conditions. Prof. Naoki Watanabe, an expert in this field, delivered lectures and conducted experiments using laboratory equipment. Additionally, the team toured various laboratories at the Institute of Low Temperature Science, including an ice storage room with temperatures as low as -50°C, various experimental rooms, and a mechanical factory equipped with high-precision machinery. This collaboration has fostered research and development partnerships between domestic and international agencies, and has also contributed to the development of students and researchers.
