During August 3-12, 2566 (2016), graduate students in Physics from the Department of Physics and Materials Science, Faculty of Science, PCELL (Linear Electron Accelerator Laboratory) participated in a short-term training session at the 6th International School on Beam Dynamics and Accelerator Technology (ISBA23) held in South Korea. https://conference-indico.kek.jp/event/213/
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sakorn Rimjaem served as an advisor, organizer, and instructor for the event, delivering lectures on RF systems and co-teaching the ASTRA program for electron beam simulations in linear particle accelerators. This group from PCELL was the only one from Southeast Asia participating in the Asian regional training held in Pohang, South Korea.
The training included theoretical lectures by experts on particle accelerator technology and related equipment, as well as practical sessions on medical and industrial applications of particle accelerators, and the use of machine learning and AI with accelerators. A student session allowed participants to exchange ideas and receive guidance from experts in the field. Additionally, there were hands-on training sessions where students simulated electron beams in both circular and linear accelerators using ASTRA and ELEGANT programs. Each group of students had different tasks, culminating in presentations of their simulation results on the final day of training.
Furthermore, participants visited the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) and the Korea Multi-purpose Accelerator Complex (KOMAC), as well as cultural landmarks in South Korea such as Bulgaksa Temple and the Gyeongju National Museum arranged by the training organizers.
